Zacuto Films presents, The Great Camera Shootout 2010: a three part web series where gunslinging HD DSLRs face-off against legendary 35mm Film. The webisodic series showcases the top performing hybrid HD-DSLR cameras: Canon: 5D MKII, 7D, 1D, 550D/T2i Rebel, Nikon D3s, Panasonic GH1 and compares the image quality of these cameras against the gold standard of 35mm film. In addition, the Canon 5D MKII test includes the new 24p firmware. “This was an enormous undertaking,” says Steve Weiss, Web Series Director, “and great care was to make this an apples-to-apples test with scientific accuracy behind it.” Coming March 24, 2010 only at www.zacuto.com Each webisode of the series features various controlled camera assessment tests which include: resolution, latitude, sensitivity, speed & ultra high speed, noise, color & green screen. The battery of tests were administered under strict controls and conducted by Robert Primes ASC, Gary Adcock, Philip Bloom, Jens Bogehegn and colorist Ryan Emerson. (You should really watch this in 1080p. Just sayin’) We recently purchased a new camera! Body: Canon 7D Lens: Tamron 17-55mm f/2.8 Filter: Fader ND w/ UV filter All of these shots were done hand held. We do not have a rig as of yet. This camera cost us a small fortune and so a decent tri-pod, rig, and follow-focus are a bit out of our reach at the moment. This was all done on the default settings at 24p. No post production editing or grading except for a small amount of color correction on a few shots. The video from this camera is astounding! With some time and practice I think we will be able to turn out some really great footage.
